Group Retreats

Bethany welcomes small groups from churches, missions and other Christian organisations. Covering a little over one square mile, Cheung Chau Island's relaxed lifestyle, rural surroundings, traffic-free environment and clean air make it an ideal place to escape the frenetic pace and congestion of the city. There are several peaceful walks around rocky coves; sandy beaches and a small town well served by restaurants and shops, all within a short walk of Bethany.

What Kind of Groups Can Stay?
We cater for groups of up to 25, providing a place where people can come together, minister to one another, draw closer to the Lord, pray, learn, plan and grow as a team. Mission teams, Alpha groups, home groups and leadership teams are amongst those who choose Bethany for their retreats. Bethany's resident Pastor is willing to give input to your group should you wish. Just make your request when booking and, if possible, he will seek to meet the need. Bethany does not cater for groups planning only recreational activities.

What are the facilities?
Set on a hill in attractive grounds overlooking the South China Sea, Bethany consists of several houses surrounded by flowers, shrubs and trees, with shaded sitting areas. Western style accommodation and catering are provided with air-conditioned guest rooms, most with private bathroom. Our sitting rooms and dining rooms are suitable for meetings and discussions and a wide range of equipment is available for your use. Table tennis, a basketball court and a BBQ are in the grounds. Breakfast and evening meal are provided together with tea and coffee making facilities. Please enquire about anything special you may need.

When Can Groups Book a Retreat?
Group reservations are taken throughout the year but restrictions apply over some Public Holidays, when we reserve Bethany for singles, couples and families. Check in time is from 2 p.m. and check out is at 11:30 am. Come for the day or as long as you need.

Will Groups Have Space to Themselves?
Groups are guaranteed exclusive use of the buildings they reserve. Additional rooms can be reserved in one of the other buildings where guest numbers are insufficient to require exclusive use with those participants joining their colleagues for meals and group activities. This ensures that groups and private individuals on retreat do not disturb each other and groups can enjoy a little more flexibility with their arrangements.

How do we make a reservation?
Bookings are very easy. Groups should nominate one person to handle all the arrangements with Bethany Ministries just to minimise the problem of miscommunication. Early reservations are recommended and are accepted up to nine months in advance.Receipt of your non-returnable initial donation within one month of reservation will secure your reservation.
