Serving Those Who Serve

During your stay at Bethany you will meet some of our staff who are here to serve you. Our team includes people from several
nationalities and backgrounds with a variety of skills and experiences. We have staff available to help you with practical,
emotional and spiritual matters so please feel free to speak to one of us if you would like help.

Current Staff

	Ding and Tes Rumbaua are Bethany’s longest serving staff couple, joining Rob and Elaine Hartland in the early days of Bethany Cottage they have served at Bethany over 20 years! Having stepped-up to be part of the leadership team at Bethany, Ding skillfully manages the properties; he can do just about anything when it comes to repairs and maintenance, while Tes is well accomplished in managing the Catering & Hospitality to ensure the comfort of all guests at Bethany.
	Chris Reeves serves as Operations Manager, working alongside Ding & Tes, looking after the Accounts, Administration & Reception; arranging reservations and helping to welcome and assist guests staying at Bethany.
	Cherry is our Executive Chef, selecting and preparing the delicious meals served to guests as well as managing all areas concerning food at Bethany! Cherry's reputation is spreading wider as more guests enjoy the meals she lovingly prepares and serves.
	Jenny (HK) - Hospitality Assistant, helps to keep Bethany's accommodation clean and fresh for our guests. Jenny assists Cherry with preparing dinner for guests each day, sometimes taking charge when Cherry is away
	Vicki (Philippines) - Hospitality Assistant, works the early-shift setting the breakfasts for guests and works hard with various hospitality duties keeping Bethany clean and tidy. Vicki has lived in HK many years and is a fluent cantonese-speaker.
	Pui Ling - Hospitality Assistant, working alongside Vicki & Jenny to provide Bethany's guest rooms and facilities clean and fresh to bless our guests.
	Hing is our Estates Assistant, making sure Bethany grounds are neat and clean. He particularly enjoys indoor and outdoor painting/ renovations and using the leaf-blower machine!
	Catherine began working at Bethany in 2011 assisting with hospitality duties on Sundays. In Sept 2012 Catherine joined our team full-time as Estates & Hospitality Assistant, working alongside Ding & Hing looking after the grounds, plants, buildings, pets; and continuing her Hospitality role on Sundays.
	Nora Iwarat is one of our Catering Assistants, helping Cherry & Tes as needed, particularly in the busy Summer period
Staff who have served in 2012
	David & Sandra McCandless served as Team Leaders for 2 years, ending in April 2012, during which time they oversaw major improvements to Bethany’s infrastructure. On the pastoral side David & Sandra were able to use their ministry-training to encourage and help many guests on the path to overcome struggles and challenges in their lives. Now back in Canada, they are able to spend precious time with their family and pursue new direction in their life together.
	Dave & Sandra Gillard, a returning Pastoral Couple, were with us from March to May and played a key role in supporting Ding, Tes and Chris in their transition to taking on Bethany Leadership, whilst helping keep Bethany ticking-along with the reservations and pastoral support to guests.
	Christina Ruddenklau (NZ) served from March to May, supporting many guests with pastoral needs and helping update Bethany's Health & Safety, Fire and First Aid stocks and procedures.
	Shum & Helen are of HK origin but spent much of their lives in Texas, USA but for May-June this year they served with Bethany at a much-needed time. Being Cantonese-speakers helped tremendously as they were able to mix western and Asian-culture in providing pastoral care to many HK-locals as well as expats. Shum was able to apply his accounting background in helping us with some key areas of Bethany’s accounts and financial-reporting, at the perfect time!
	Paul & Anita (Canada & Philippines) have previously served in Africa, Philippines and Canada so their 2-month service from June-July brought much cross-cultural experience to help relate to guests and their pastoral needs.
	Philip & Joan (UK) will be well-know by many of our guests and supporters having served for several years previously. They returned to serve in Pastoral role and assist with Reception from August to October during one of our busiest periods, a great blessing to guests and staff.
	Margaret Rule (UK) spent many years serving at Bethany in the mid 90's through 2003. In October she flew to HK to answer God's call between the departure of Philip & Joan and the return of Rod & Ruthie. Margaret's experience and knowledge blessed the Bethany Team and guests during the Oct-Dec Autumn-Winter period.
	Which brings us to Rod & Ruthie (R2) Gilbert, coming back to Bethany in mid-December to serve through to the end of January 2013. As with each couple who have served at Bethany, R2 bring a piece of God's heart to Bethany – particularly their gifts in guiding people in marriage and relationships. We are excited to serve alongside them this winter.

Our dedicated and friendly domestic staff all live on Cheung Chau working in the kitchen, serving at tables,
preparing rooms for guests,doing laundry and generally helping to keep Bethany clean and tidy.
